Pony Trekking
You can go riding in a group or alone with a guide.
We cater for youngsters who dont have any experience and for those that do.
Adults from total beginners to advanced are also welcome.
If you don't have any experience at all you can still go out on the ponies on a lead rein. Its just as much fun to go on the beach or in the hills on a lead rein. Just being on the back of a pony makes your holiday all the more fun.
In the Uists - Barra it is a traditional experience to ride bareback and this is super fun. The ponies are all well rounded and very comfortable.
If you are not brave enough to ride, you can hire a pony to carry your picnic lunch whilst you are on your walk. It means you dont have to carry anything but get the pleasure of the wonderful company of these fantastic ponies.
Traditionally Eriskay Ponies used to carry peat (for the fireplace) and seaweed (for fertilising the land) on specially designed creels (baskets on each side). So carrying your day pack and picnic lunch is super easy for them. Just bring some carrots of apples along to say thank you at snack time :)
We also hire out all the correct riding gear, from hard hats to body protectors and jodphurs etc.
If you love ponies but don't feel brave enough to have the full contact, come along and meet The Eriskay Ponies and say hello. Just being with them and giving them a stoke and a pat is bound to make you feel great.
Showing your support for these ponies, helps save them from extinction, so you are doing a great job if you come by to say hello and use them on your holiday.
